Active Reading is a software program for English as a Second language students. The program contains an abundance of relevant and stimulating reading material in the form of newspaper and magazine articles, emails, poems, recipes, stories, and press releases. Each unit integrates reading with speaking, writing, and vocabulary development. For example, a text on fashion leads to an activity where learners create their own advertisement for a watch; a unit on recipes takes students online to research recipes from different countries. After each activity, students are provided with meaningful feedback. The program contains six levels from Elementary to Advanced, with ten units in each level. Each unit is introduced with a video, followed by controlled practice and comprehension exercises.
